Road Trip to Texas

Hello all!  We have survived the road trip from sunny Southern California to the unpredictable Dallas, Texas with 3 kids and a dog. That’s exhausting just to write it. Haha! Actually, the drive went really well. Pebbles did wonderful and the kids were happy. I think we only had to yell at them a handful of times, ha! We stopped on the way in Odessa, TX to check out the meteor crater. Drew’s new found love of space had him really excited about this.

We got to the apartment at around 10:30pm and after roaming around the complex half asleep with numb tushes, we finally figured out how to get in to the parking garage. Then we had to walk around the maze of corridors looking for our unit. As we start to settle in, I decide to make some popcorn since we were hungry from our travels. As everyone is getting showered up, I put a popcorn bag, into what apparently is a nuclear device that cooks popcorn at light speed. As the apartment starts to fill with smoke, I start to have flashbacks of fire trucks coming (anyone who knows my fireball chicken story will understand). I start to worry the fire sprinklers and alarm will go off in the whole complex so I frantically throw the smokey popcorn bag out the balcony.

Once I recover from “the incident” and stop being asked what the smell is, I decide it would be a good idea to throw a load of laundry in at 12:30am…the apartment didn’t agree with this idea. About 5 minutes after starting the load, Owen yells, “IT’S FLOODING!” Yup, that’s right folks…we had an inch of water in half the apartment in a matter of minutes. We quickly turn off the machine and call the emergency hotline who said they would send someone over. We used every towel we had in the place to sop up all the water and at about 1:30am, someone finally arrived with the heavy duty vacuums to suck what was left, which was just behind the washer and fridge. By this time, I was surprised we didn’t have an angry mob with torches and pitchforks outside our place demanding that we leave, ha! This was not quite the adventure I had in mind when we set out, but it was an adventure nonetheless, ha!

Love,

The Lo Presti Fam
